Courtney Barrows McKeown, MD
Courtney Barrows McKeown, MD, is a board-certified general surgeon. She performs the full array of general surgery and has additional expertise in breast surgery, surgical oncology, melanoma, advanced laparoscopic surgery, gastric tumor resection, and management of diseases of the gallbladder, bile ducts, and duodenum. She also performs colonoscopies including polyp resections and upper endoscopy.
Dr. Barrows McKeown earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Boston College and her medical degree from New York Medical College, where shereceived numerous awards including Samuel Spiegel Prize for Clinical and Academic Excellence, the Wilfred Ruggiero Memorial Award in Surgery, and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. She completed her internship and residency in general surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA, where she was awarded the Isaac O. Mehrez Award for Surgical Excellence and the Resident Teacher of the Year Award. Following surgical residency, she received additional training in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery at The Cleveland Clinic. Before she was recruited to Columbia Surgical Partners, Dr. Barrows McKeown practiced as a general surgeon at Frisbie Memorial Hospital in New Hampshire.
Dr. Barrows McKeown has authored over 20 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and has presented her work at numerous national and regional specialty meetings. She is very passionate about patient education and strives to ensure that each patient has a solid understanding of their disease process and treatment plan, no matter how complex.
When she is not working, Dr. Barrows McKeown enjoys kayaking, golfing, and spending time with her husband and their rescue dog, Buddy. She is also an avid sports fan and enjoys following football, basketball, and hockey.
